Goel on #debian.. networking question: i have 2 computers.. no switch or hub... i want to connect them one at a time to cable (Static ip..) ... , so i guess i will have similar entries in etc/interfaces for the two... but then, when not connected to cable, i want them to talk to each other... how do i do *that*? don't they need different ips for that purpose? do i have to modify etc/interfaces every time i want them to talk to each other? or dwdm aweyeah : any progress? oc43 of course to even get oc3 you have to check with your telco to see if you can get it their rools deego: get a hub or a switch and save yourself a lot of pain deego: crossover cable? anything above t1's are sometimes hard to get eventide: crossover? * calc <- works for a telco deego: do you have have one NIC in one of the computers, and two in the other? *** oat (oat@i204-250.nv.iinet.net.au) has quit: arr *** icicled (~jon@12-239-152-208.client.attbi.com) has left channel #Debian FsckIt: one nic in each puter.. will have to move cables when 'talk to each other'.... deego: well, what epi said is good advice, but a crossover cable goes from ethernet card to ethernet card of two comps *** frogman (~bob@ta0206.peakpeak.com) has joined channel #debian unless you are going to host something you will be very hard pressed to ever saturate more than a good adsl downstream deego: and allows them to talk (and yes, with different IPs) *** bird-sama (~jc124742@jfc-137-219-141-162.tvlres.jcu.edu.au) has joined channel #debian deego: I don't think you can do what you need with the equipment you have *** a-phobia (semperfy@lsanca1-ar4-4-60-030-012.lsanca1.dsl-verizon.net) has joined channel #debian deego : switch or hub is so cheap - again netgear is great *** a-phobia (semperfy@lsanca1-ar4-4-60-030-012.lsanca1.dsl-verizon.net) is now known as compubomb eventide: but if they have differnet ip's then one won't get internet right.. *** chuteboxe (chuteboxe@solitaire62.eftel.com) has joined channel #debian deego: you could with one more NIC.. but I would just get a hub (they aren't that expensive, really) * calc has 8000/640 adsl * deego will get a hub../switch.. *** chuteboxe (chuteboxe@solitaire62.eftel.com) has quit: Client Quit l.. :) anyone have a tv-in card working? deego: if you want to get really cool, buy a linksys router with dhcp - about $120 US boltion: yes FsckIt: any recos/specs? deego: I have several machines here, all connected to the internet, through one of my machines (which has two NICs in it) calc: which card/ and which driver? get a router... boltion: 3dfx voodootv, bttv driver *** boto (~boto@dl-nas7-cwb-C89ACB86.p001.terra.com.br) has quit: "zzzZZzzZZZZZZZzzzz" .. calc: is that in the K ? *** aweyeah (~dmistry@ool-435158f9.dyn.optonline.net) has joined channel #debian boltion: what in K? epi: u here? aweyeah : yes deego: well, the machine with two NICs (my router) is a 486 I got from somewhere..
